The Caribbean Islands are rich with biodiversity, home to over 560 bird species—including 176 that are found nowhere else in the world. The region is also the seasonal grounds for over 150 migratory bird species that either winter there after breeding in North America, or stop over during the course of their long migrations.
Through their annual Caribbean Water Birds Census and ongoing monitoring of landbirds and seabirds, BirdsCaribbean provides the data necessary to understand the health of bird populations that use the region, and conserve the habitats they rely on.
BirdsCaribbean hosts an annual Caribbean Endemic Bird Festival to raise awareness and appreciation of the region’s unique bird life, and also created a Caribbean Birding Trail, which has grown to over 130 sites in 24 countries.
