Liz Wahid is a certified science illustrator who focuses primarily on ornithological illustrations. Her background is in fine art and wildlife conservation, and the care of captive raptors constantly inspires her work. “I see birds as a gateway to connecting with and conserving nature, since curiosity and regard for birds can foster a world of change in the scope of ecological conservation. It is my hope that the accuracy of my illustrations helps viewers to better understand nature, and the subjects I illustrate inspire others to connect with the natural world around them.”
We commissioned Liz for the BlackAFinSTEM x Bird Collective collaboration to celebrate Black Birders Week 2021. The illustration features a pair of Boat-tailed Grackles, with the male calling from the ground as the female flies above marsh grasses.
